Depending on what state you live in will determine how you can register to vote. There are 40 states that offer online voter registration which can making registering much easier. There are also many organizations across the U.S that helps people with disabilities get registered and ready to vote. Nonprofit Vote has made this comprehensive list of organizations in each state.
Who Can Vote
The eligibility for who can vote changes state to state. You can read the voter registration rules for each state on this chart. There are some criteria that does not change:
- Be a U.S citizen
- Meet your state’s residency requirements

How to Register to Vote
Many states have made it very easy to register to vote online. This website will bring you to your state’s online voting registration if it is available in your state. It also will direct you to the in-person registration offices across the U.S. A much easier way to vote may be to print out the National Mail Voter Registration Form and mail it into you state’s office.

- Telephone Number
- ID Number or Social Security Number - If you do not have either check out your state’s specific instructions
- Party
- Race/Ethnic Group
Registering to Vote with a Disability
As exciting as it is to vote it can be a very overwhelming task to do, there can be many barriers that make it difficult to register to vote. There are many Federal Laws that ensure that voting registration is accessible to everyone. You can read about the different laws here.
