Kyle Maynard is an entrepreneur, speaker, best selling author, role model, and award-winning extreme athlete. Born with a rare condition known as congenital amputation, that left him with arms that end at the elbows and legs that end near his knees, he learned early on to live life independently and without prosthetics. Kyle overcame mental blocks and excuses in order to achieve his dreams.
Kyle has become a champion wrestler, GNC's World's Strongest Teen, an MMA Fighter, and is the first quadruple amputee to summit Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Aconcagua. He is also the recipient of two Espy (ESPN) Awards. He is a former Abercrombie & Fitch model and a recipient of the President’s Award for the Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame. Kyle is a New York Times best selling author of No Excuses, and the focus of the moving ESPN documentary, “A Fighting Chance.” His story has been featured on ESPN, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Larry King Live, ABC’s 20/20, Good Morning America, HBO’s Real Sports and as a cover story in USA Today. Kyle was also featured in “Unlimited Will,” which is the latest film installment in the Nike "Unlimited” Campaign.
In the interview with our Different & Able President and Founder, Alexandra Nicklas, Kyle shares how his unique childhood and approach have helped him achieve results that would make him extraordinary under any circumstances, let alone with the kind of extreme physical challenges that he faces. Kyle is on a mission to make the world a better place and inspire others to do the same. By sharing his story and living by example, Kyle encourages others to, “Know your limits, but never stop trying to break them.”
